Getting to Waterford Where to Stay What to Do History of Waterford

Waterford Waterford is Ireland's oldest city, founded by Viking raiders in AD 914. It is the cultural, economic, educational, technological and industrial capital of the South East region and, today, continues to develop as a major city into the new millennium.

Waterford is a historic and cultural city, one of colour and excitement. Above all it is a rapidly developing and progressive city. There are many attractions to Waterford, it's galleries, museums, festivals and arts centres, its busy streets full of fascinating shops, small lanes to stroll through with 1,000 years of history meeting you on virtually every street corner. Waterford offers a wide choice of eateries including gourmet, vegetarian and ethnic restaurants, as well as lively café bars and pubs for the traditional Irish singsongs. With an exciting medieval flavour and riverside bustle Waterford has it all.

Waterford City is also easily accessible, just two and a half hours from Dublin by road or rail, one and a half hours from Cork and an hour from Rosslare Harbour. The city also has it's own airport providing daily flights to London, and a regular service to other UK and European destinations.

Waterford is a hub for the South East region of Ireland, a vibrant and exciting city to visit. See other pages for ideas on where to stay and what to do and see when you’re in the city.
