@ Blackfriars
A new location for Spraoi Festival, and plenty to look forward to on Stage 2 at Spraoi 2011. A great blend of bands from all corners, covering a broad spectrum of sounds. It runs over the three days of the festival.
Friday kicks off with Koda Kid, then it’s a strange kind of garage experimental rock from Wichita. Then comes
Trousersnake, followed by a Wateford band beginning to make a buzz around the country, Chimpanbee. Friday finishes with Luasa, an electronic three piece with an energetic live show.
Saturday begins with a trio from Waterford, The Great Ocean Divide. Then it’s the turn of Callum Read and the Books from London who “make a right old racket together”! Next band up, Chirps, are a three-piece post-rock outfit from Ballina. Waterford band Percolator will no doubt be a big draw, and they’re followed by Van Basten, a brand new band made up of former members of Gorbachov and Ilya K. Cork outfit Class of 1984 are the penultimate band on Stage 2 on Saturday, and headling are Hands Up Who Wants To Die, a group whose songs have been described as “off-kilter noise rock”.
Sunday on Stage 2 there’s a more laid back air, and you can catch singer song-writer Chris Dunne Rico, followed by Rudy Blooms Apparition. Tramore band Hollering Pine follow, and John Blek and the Rats are up next, a
fresh folk outfit whose melancholy is tempered by a penchant for a good ol’hollerin. Solar Taxi are a four piece indie/electro group from Waterford, and then it’s the turn of Fighting Spiders, a band who spawn their own unique breed of electro-pop. Casanova Wave headline on Sunday, a happy-go-lucky mix of warm electronic and fresh live instruments.
