Street Art The production and staging of top quality street art is at the very centre
of Spraoi's ethos. Street art is, by its' very nature, vibrant, innovative and
inclusive; qualities the company strives for.
Street art can encompass many disciplines; music,
theatre, dance, comedy and circus, and the
festival has featured, and will continue to feature, the very best of national
and international acts.
Spraoi 2010 saw productions by artists and companies from Ireland,
Britain, the USA,
India, Canada,
Germany, France,
Sweden, Belgium
and Spain. It
featured the Irish premieres of no less than eight new street theatre shows, including Kluster Vz from Belgium, Company Magmanus from Sweden,
UK dance and
acrobatic company Mimbre, fusing acrobatics with theatre and dance in their new
production “Until Now”, and the Rob Torres from the USA with his hilarious one man show "Funeeestuff".
Walkabout performances are also a major element
at the festival, and Spraoi 2010 presented The Fine Artistes with three different walkabout shows, Stuff & Things with
“The Thinker” and “Carpet Man and Lino Boy”, and from Catalonia there was the funereal
“Humortal”. The
company will continue to seek out new, exciting and innovative street
theatre work, both national and international, to present at the Spraoi
Festival.
