STREET ART
The
production and staging of top quality street art is at the very
centre of Spraoi's ethos. Street art is, by its' very nature,
vibrant, innovative and inclusive; qualities the company strives
for. Street art can encompass many disciplines; music, theatre,
dance, comedy and circus, and the festival has featured, and will
continue to feature, the very best of national and international
acts.
Spraoi 2008 will see productions by companies from Ireland, Britain,
the USA, Australia, Canada, France, Holland and Spain. It will
feature the Irish premiere of Avanti Display’s large scale
production “Hydromania” at Waterford Courthouse in the Peoples Park.
Also receiving Irish premiers are Sienta La Cabeza from Spain, who
use willing volunteers from the audience to create crazy hairstyles,
the USA Breakdancers with their stunning dance moves, Mimbre with
their stylish choreographed piece “Sprung”, and Bash Street Theatre
with their new production “The Station”, a production which has been
co-commissioned by Spraoi. Spraoi will also present their own new
touring production “The Box”.
Promenade performances will be a major element at the festival this
year, with some large scale walkabout performances by companies
Close Act from Holland, Larkin’ About and Los Kaos from the UK, and
Waterford Youth Arts with a specially commissioned piece, “The
Rubbish Pirates”.
