SPRAOI'S BIG BANG: NEW YEARS
EVE 2009
Spraoi and Traffik combined performance, sets and music
on New Year’s Eve at The Forum to stage a spectacular start to 2010.
Feedback from the capacity crowd was tremendous and we really appreciate
the fantastic atmosphere generated by a great audience. Thanks also to
Spraoi’s cast and crew, the Traffik D.J’s, Forum staff and all our
friends from other organisations who loaned props and equipment for the
show. It really was a Big Bang at Midnight and a buzzing start to 2010.
SPRAOI IN AFRICA!
Clare Horgan
and Ken Fortune are currently in Africa with the organisation Playing
for Life, helping a local community in Tanzania build a parade!
The two representatives from Spraoi will be there for 10 days in all, hosting
workshops and working with the townspeople there to complete the project.
LABOUR LEADER VISITS STUDIOS
Eamonn
Gilmore, the Labour Leader, visited the Spraoi Studios on Friday,
September 11th and had a cup of coffee, a tour of the studios, and met
some of Spraoi's volunteers. He was particularly impressed by the
enthusiasm and keen interest shown in Spraoi by the volunteers, and
thanks to all those who came along to represent the volunteer body
ONGOING WORK AT STUDIOS
The Spraoi
Studios are very busy at the moment with various projects, including a
prop build for a production of "Little Shop of Horrors", set builds for
various productions in Cork, Waterford and Tipperary, and even some
preliminary work for St. Patricks Festival in 2010!
SPRAOI IN THE SUMMER 2009
Thanks to all
our acts, sponsors, volunteers, crews and audience for a great
Spraoi Summer. An expanded
programme of work for the company in the Summer of 2009
featured
the Spraoi Festival on the August Bank Holiday weekend,
while a
brand new event
"Spraoi in the Park" took place on
the first weekend in July.
Three days of street theatre and world music based around the
streets and squares of Waterford City centre. Highlights
included a brand new show
Mobile Oblique et Bancal from French company Transe
Express in Millers Marsh, Trukitrek from Spain with their new
show, Hotel Crab,
and the infectious rhythms of The 17 Hippies from Germany.
Firework company Pyrofantasia brought the festival to a climax
with a fantastic firework display on Sunday evening. For
images from the event, see our Spraoi Festival page.

This brand new event was a major success, drawing large crowds
into the Park, despite some unclement weather on a couple of the
days.
Four days of entertainment and installations, based in and
around the People's Park, featured
the
Spraoi Parade
on Sunday afternoon "Mr.
Menagerie and his Clockwork Creatures".
Architects of Air was a
major attraction with
Levity II, a monumental, inflatable installation
based
in the park for four days. Flower
Power, the largest flower bed ever built in Waterford took
shape on the cycle track,
built
by Spraoi and members of the public.
And there was lots of music,
dance and
entertainment
on Saturday
and Sunday
afternoons to keep the
large crowds entertained.
See our Spraoi in the Park
page for images from the event, and the Spraoi Parade.
DUBLIN DOCKLANDS MARITIME FESTIVAL
Brilliant
sunshine accompanied Spraoi as they made their way to the Dublin
Docklands Maritime Festival on the June Bank Holiday weekend.
The company was commissioned once again by the Dublin Docklands
Authority to provide the outdoor entertainment at the 2009
Festival. The event was a huge success, with massive
crowds over the three days, who were kept entertained by the
street theatre, music, Tall Ships, market stalls and visual
art.
