With an
emphasis on quality and diversity, music has always been a main feature
of the Spraoi Festival. Sounds of many kinds reverberate through the
city over the three days. With over 200 free gigs, both indoors and out,
the music programme leaves the Spraoi audience spoilt for choice.
Different elements
make up the music programme. For 2009 the
AOL Stage on John Roberts Square Stage
ran throughout the three days of the festival featuring world music.
Spraoi was delighted to present the first ever Irish performance of
German sensations “The 17 Hippies”
on the stage on Saturday evening.
The
Irish Beats Stage on the
William
Vincent Wallace Plaza Stage hosted a stunning collection of original
Irish bands, as well as world music. There’s also lots of music on the streets,
courtesy of percussion,
brass
and jazz bands.
A major element
of the festival is the Guinness Rhythm Route, programmed in pubs
throughout the city centre in the afternoons and evenings.
