Spraoi Festival 2009: July 31st, August 1st and 2nd

Held over the August Bank Holiday weekend in Ireland, the Spraoi Festival is an annual riot of colour, energy and excitement with an atmosphere that is unique among Irish festivals. It takes over city centre areas of Waterford for three days, transforming the streets and quays of the city into a giant stage for acts from all over the world. Spraoi is committed to the advancement of street arts, and the festival produces, premieres and showcases some of the best in the world. The festival is also a platform for top quality world music. And it's all free!

The 2008 featured acts from 13 countries, and several Irish premieres, including the large scale street theatre production “Hydromania”, presented by one of Britain’s leading street spectacle companies, Avanti Display, a spectacular stilt and dance production “Ombre”, by Italy’s Oplas Teatro, and “The Station” by Bash St Theatre, which was co-commissioned by Spraoi in association with ten other international festivals.

Spraoi also premiered their own 2008 production, “The Iron Tide”, on Sunday evening, a fitting climax to the great outdoor spectacle that is the Spraoi Festival.
