Carlsberg has joined forces with Spraoi once again to bring you some of the best music around for Spraoi 2011 and there’s plenty to be sampled in the many city centre pubs, clubs and hotels over the three days and nights of the festival.  Check out the many and varied sounds of the national and international bands on the Carlsberg Rhythm Route at Spraoi 2011.

Kalakuta Millionaires

Kalakuta Millionaires - Waterford SpraoiFusing tunes from the heart of 70s Nigeria, the carnivals of Cuba, the back streets of Brazil and beyond. This afro Latino Funk orchestra combine blistering bass with stunning harmonies and an explosive rhythm section. They have taken the UK by storm with their dirty mix of Fela Kuti-inspired brass, Latin percussion, afro-psych organ and JB-style funk.

 

Zubop Gambia

A collaboration between London-based worldbeat and jazz music group Zubop and the West African master musicians Mosi Conde (vocals, kora, balafon, guitar,Zubop Gambia - Waterford Spraoi djembe), with Njega Sohna (djembe, talking drum, vocals). For the last 19 years Zubop have been performing throughout the UK and in continental Europe, playing their unique blend of original music, influenced by many musical cultures from around the world.

 

Sam and the Womp

Sam and The womp Waterford Spraoi FestivalPerforming original high-energy Balkan, ska and dub material with a huge WOMP of gypsy dub-step for pudding. This band have created their very own dance – “The Womp” and quite possibly a whole new style of music. This is one live show which is sure to get you dancing. Do The Womp!

 

The Cosmic Funk Band
With their exciting charismatic combination of Funk and Disco, and almost 10 years gigging experience,

The Cosmic Funk Band - Waterford Spraoithis band are guaranteed to have you dancing the night away. With Mr. Funk himself on lead vocals, along with two female vocalists, a brass section, drum and bass, keys and guitar this Cork based seven piece will win over any audience.

Baraka

Baraka - Waterford SpraoiA unique combination of musicians from Ghana, Senegal, Dominican and Northern and Southern Ireland featuring musical collaborations that you are unlikely to hear with any other band. Each musician contributes their own individual sound and style. Baraka are edgy experimental and innovative without losing sight of the fact that entertainment is the key.

 

 

Lebowski
A popular 5 piece band from Waterford playing a truly unique set. The fantastic Lebowski’s eclectic mix of musical styles is renowned throughout the South East. They have a truly unique set taking advantage of their original line-up featuring a harmonised medley of modern instruments and classical flute. Lebowski play a myriad of music from traditional to ska to 60’s rock. With hits from Buffalo Spirngfield to Horselips and from The Specials to The Waterboys, you can be assured this is a show not to be missed.
Please note, Hot Guitars will not be playing this weekend and will be replaced by Waterford’s White Lines.
